RSC to Re-open Every 6 Months!?!

Jagex has such a bad sense of timing put here's a bit of good news for those of you that missed the 2 weeks:
RuneScape Classic Plan

We’re now coming to the end of the Classic trial period and it’s time to let you know what we’re going to do next with RuneScape Classic. First of all, thanks very much for your response and enthusiasm – it’s great to see that many of you still enjoy Classic! We’re very glad to see new people playing the game again.

Many have been asking why we don’t open some of the servers up to free players. One reason is that it’s a great benefit for us to offer to our members in appreciation of their support, but the main reason is that we want to keep Classic’s gameplay just as it is. In order to allow an unlimited number of accounts into Classic, we would have to make a lot of the big changes to it that we have made to RS2, and then it wouldn’t be Classic any more.

There is good news, though, if you missed out on the opportunity to join Classic this time: it’s not the last chance! We will be opening Classic up to allow new members to join the game every six months from now on.

The plan is:

  • After Wednesday 25th November, there will be two Classic worlds.
  • If you are a veteran (that is, if you logged in to Classic between August 2005 and January 2006), you will have access to both worlds.
  • If you are a Classic member (that is, if you logged in to Classic in the last two weeks but are not a veteran), you will have access to world 2 only.
  • If you stop being a member, you will not be able to access Classic until you become a member again, at which point your access will be restored.
  • If you did not log in to Classic in the past two weeks, you will get another chance in around six months’ time. We will announce the exact dates nearer to the time.

As for the player-owned servers idea, we have decided not to proceed with it in Classic at this point: the game is working fine as it is, with new people playing it, and there’s no reason to continue with such a big project with the numbers of players in Classic as they currently are. We do still really like the idea of player-owned servers, though, and will continue to think about it.

I see this becoming a problem a BIIIIG problem... I would have rather they kept with the POS (player owned servers). Why? one word: Bots. Jagex has had a (and I'm being nice when I say this) disastrous track record when it comes to managing the bot problem in RSC... UNLESS they start banning again... Reopening it will also every 6 months will only allow botters who where banned to try again and again and again.I'm also not sure 2 worlds is enough... time will tell... I am pleased that they did not scrap the POS idea all together... I'm hoping that enough problems with RSC will arise that they will seriously reconsider implementing it....

A reminder if you have been in RSC recently and want to join a RSC fan site now is a good time! Forever RSC needs your help one our first project.

IRL Interrupts Again...

I hate talking about IRL issues but this affects the blog so I feel that I need to give you the basics. I have to go on hiatus(only the blogs I may get on rs for very short periods now and again) for a few weeks due to a couble of things:

1
I got into a wreck with a deer( no permanent harm done to me). My car is damaged severely I don't know yet the extent of the damage and if it can be repaired (I hope it can be as I have no way of replacing it until summer...) With it being the holidays (Turkey Day) It's going to cause a lot of problems as I work in a neighboring town... that and the holidays makes sharing a car a bit difficult..

2
I am in the process of moving...I'm finally leaving the nest! I have an apartment lined up. Not sure exactly when I will be moving (all I know is the first part of Dec) as they have to paint the apartment and clean it... I need to devoted time to packing(which is slow with the holidays, ugh...). Also when I move I will not be online at all for about a week. (never mind I may not have internet at the new apartment... don't worry I can always use the library)

See you all again soon!

The Nostalgia of a Classic Aximili E I

You have read the history of this blog and looked at some of my favorite things that I have done/seen over the past year. I want to just say a few words in conclusion:

When I looked back this past year and I wonder if it was worth it. By far it was. Been such a great journey! I have meet great bloggers and made new friends in both RSC and RS2. Just to name a few: Merch Gwyar, Vaskor, Icey Dan1, Kitt Fox, Lady Riddel, Full of Pie, xCJRx. I have had my ups and downs. From making those friends or making the RuneClassic Heads Comic(ups) to an illegal private server RSC Angel(which linked to me[down]). I get great joy writing this blog and I know there are many that enjoy reading it.

I would like to thank everyone who has followed me the past year and here's to another year!

What I Did Today:
"Hello there! Peabody here and that's my boy Sherman over by the WACBAC Machine."
"The WACBAC Machine is all warmed up Mr. Peabody "
"Excellent Sherman! Then set the indicator for late 2005-Nov 14 2008"
"Late 2005-Nov 14 2008 it is."
"Our target for today will be RuneScape Classic where we'll come face to face to that legendary RuneScape Classic Historian Aximili E I"
**************************************
A dog answering to the name of Mr. Peabody and a boy named Sherman walked by the mugger earlier today while I was happily mining( I wanted to see if it was true that ore drops to the ground if you continue to mine after a full inventory) I told them to watch out but Mr. Peabody must have high ranging has he dispatch it with one shot! The little Robin Hood...

Some time later the pair returned to RSC... I was talking with some fellow TruthScape members we were planning to do a world tour as I never seemed to have left the Lumby/Draynor/Varrock area before. One of them then handed me a runite ore I was was so giddy though I couldn't use the darn thing... thought of selling it. Sherman asked somewhat silently to Mr. Peabody why I didn't sell the ore as it was worth a good penny. Don't know why he didn't ask me directly I was right there... Mr. Peabody then told me to keep the runite... Don't know why I may never bee able to use it in RS2 much less RSC... But I did what I was asked...you don't question a talking dog... Before he left he told me "Oh and by the way you may want to hold off on that world tour until around Thanksgiving." I thanked him all awhile a little worried about my sanity...
**************************************
"He would later become a famous and well known Blogger on Runescape Classic. But he is also known for doing stupid things."
"He was?"
"Well he did carry the title of The RSC NOOB."
**************************************
Now wasn't that fun?
I did get two mining lvls back in the day they were at the Varrock west mine. And yes, I got the runite that sits at the top of my bank on my B-day and no I don't recall if they just gave it to me as a B-day present or not...

I'm hoping that the Adventurer Log will eventually be able to tell me RSC information(would be nice to know when exactly I got those two mining lvls...)

And here ends Day Zero...

Comment
This is my favorite comment from a fake Andrew Gower:
Hi,

I've read your blog, but what you're saying is not true, private servers are very welcome, infact RSClassic servers are actually a Revive of the version1 of the game Runescape.

Therefor, Don't flame at ppl who just want to play the first version of Runescape, flaming others = getting flamed back.

RSCAngel is doing a greater good for everyone actually, they are Trying to let ppl know how Runescape was before it got updated to HD (RS2).

Private servers are and will always stay private servers, you can't do anything about that, but they are not doing this too hurt the makers of Runescape, they are doing this cause Runescape took away their game.

The History of a Classic Aximili E I

It is hard to believe that I started this blog 1 year ago today. Back then it was on TruthScape (now RuneScoop) in the Forum Community. I was starting to lose interest in RS2 for some time by then(starting about the time I joined TruthScape in early 08, ironically) I would spend most of my time in the bank not sure what to do. I had from some time back in late 05 had a RSC account except on one occasion had done no more then make sure I could still log in (stupid 6 month rule...). It was time to dust off my RSC character. With so few people having access to RSC and several people at TruthScape wishing they could play RSC I decided to blog my adventures.

The blog was then only a "What I did today" type of blog. The first 2 days was just me doing a grand tour of RSC. I wanted to get not only me familiar with the layout of RSC (Yes, yes, I know there isn't that much difference between RS2 and RSC at least in area that they both share)but also those that would become readers of my blog. Looking back I can laugh at some of the stupid things I did:
I looked around town and went into the Ardy castle and tried going upstairs. One of the paladins was not happy and killed me.(wonder whats up there??) it was my first death too
Image
o well had to happen sooner or later lost the wooden shield :x did keep the bronze long sword and sleeping bag and promptly sold the goblin armor I had.
I tried today going into the Taverley dungeon[WAIC HINT hehe]... BIIIIIG mistake that's where I nearly lost the ore).
I was so noobish with that ore I KNEW better. The Ardy castle I had NOOO idea that would happen...

Day 3 was the day I did my first quest and I decided to do Cook's Assistant because Jagex counts it as the first quest(even though several were released at the same time...). I had never used a vid recording software before and it showed (I used Camstudio at the time) I would lose parts of Sheep Shearer and most of Witch's Potion to Camstudio freezing up. I would stitch permanently to hypercam 2 starting on day 5 with Romeo and Juliet

Day 7 was the first request day. The idea for it started I think when Da_Dragon555 asked between days 2 and 3 if I could get some pictures of various RSC Dragons and Demons. However I wouldn't do that until a later request day as I forgot about it when I first asked for requests. I've been doing Request Days every 7 days ever since. I felt that it necessary as the original purpose of blogging was to give others a chance to play RSC.(Though that will likely change the anticipated re-release of RSC) Around the same time I decided to get the blog out there with the popularity of the blog at Truthscape I decided to get a offsite blog going which is this site. From then on (after I got the other entries posted) I would try and post here as well as the blogs forum home with in moments of each other(TruthScape and then later MechScapeWorld)

RuneScape Classic Heads(now RuneClassic Heads) debuted on my blog on Christmas Eve.
Photobucket

I figured I would do a comic for fun. It was so much fun that it continues to this day.

The next day was my first non playing day blog entries: I went into RSC and did Christmas carols. A week later I changed the name of the comic from RuneScape Classic Heads to RuneClassic Heads.

January mark the first of several hiatus that would plague the blog in January and then in April and May bringing the blog down to only about 3 actual entries each during those months.

In February I adding an author to help in research, ideas, etc.: Metallian. His only real contribution to the blog would occur in February with the addition of a new feature:" Fact Sheets(currently at 3) Fact sheet #1 cover some random fact a rs2 player may not know about RSC. When I added him as author I found out about the RSC RSOF and gained access to it promising blog readers that I would watch the forums for anything interesting pertaining to RSC. With 2 new features in one month the blog was becoming more then a simple "what I did" blog to a blog centered on informative articles and videos, comics, "What I did today"(aka Blog Days), and up to date information on the RSC game and community.

March marked some major shake ups in RSC and a turning point for this blog. The announcement of a RSC Cape and the possibility of RSC reopening sent shock waves throughout not only the RSC community but RS2. Because of one of my posted on reopening I would find myself in the dark world of private servers for the first time.

Vaskor from Runescape Reader's Digest would discover my blog and would on occasion make a post about one of my posts increasing my readership greatly. I don't think the blog have would lasted without him.

May would see in end of active updating on Truthscape and the blog would not have a forum home until MechScapeWorld in early June. An addition of a blog IRC channel(with no chat at the time between RS2 and RSC it got lonely at times). Fact Sheet #2 on the RSC timeline would be released as well.

My first interview was with Ore Sabre in late June and I made some rookie interviewer mistakes... Actually the major mistake that month occurred when I discovered that I had been spreading a falsity for quite some time, which to say the least was embarrassing. I devoted a blog post apologizing for the error: The "Pitfall" of Being a Historian

July saw the addition of polls the current one being: How long have you been reading this blog?
As well as the first in what have been many updates to RSC to prepare for the re-release.

August was a very active month for this blog with entries all over the map
  • I finally had some legit RSC blog company when Cremeans0/Dr Cremeans started his own blog on RSC.
  • Icey Dan1 did a vid on RS blogging interviewing me and Vaskor (the vid increased not only my readership but help inspire many to start blogs of their own) releasing it in Sept...
  • Crossed the one month of playing RSC mark
Sept saw a major update related to the RSC re-releasing: the idea of rented private servers.

In October RSC to RS2 chat is restored as well as bank and store interface updates breaking bot programs. I added Lady Riddel/Nel Espada 3 as an author with hopes that the 3rd time would be the charm. Her first post indicated that the RSC fact sheets could be retired.

November: With the unexpected 2 week reopening of RSC, Forever RSC a RSC fansite is launched.

If you want to know how I'm celebrating I'm taking a day of all RS related activities(except to check comments here)

Part 2
of the celebration and the continuing look back at 1 year of this blog will be posted tomorrow.
